Acetone is an organic compound and in contrast to petroleum based hexane, it is a biorenewable solvent obtained via fermentation. It is generally used as a solvent for many gums, resins, and in the production of plastics.

Acetone′s luminesence intensity is dependent upon the solution components . The absorption of UV light by acetone, results in its photolysis and the production of radials .
