Gene Information
human ... PLK1(5347)
General description
Human polo-like kinase 1 (PLK1) is a serine/threonine kinase, that is located on human chromosome 16p12.
Immunogen
The antiserum was produced against synthesized peptide derived from human PLK1 around the phosphorylation site of Thr210.
Immunogen Range: 176-225
Immunogen Range: 176-225
Biochem/physiol Actions
Polo-like kinase 1 (PLK1) plays an important role in the functional maturation of mitotic centrosomes. It actively participates in the development of the cell cycle. This gene is considered as an important therapeutic target as it is overexpressed in several cancer types.

Microtubules tether centrosomes together during interphase. How this is accomplished and what benefit it provides to the cell is not known. We have identified a bipolar, minus-end-directed kinesin, Kif25, that suppresses centrosome separation. Kif25 is required to prevent premature centrosome
