2-Nitrophenyl octyl ether (NPOE) is a solvent used generally for ion transfer in liquid/liquid interface. It shows low solubility in water, low vapour pressure and is less toxic as compared to other organic solvents. It is a good solvent to ionic solutes as it has high molar volume and medium permittivity.
Application
NPOE was used as plasticizer in preparing PVC-membrane anionic-surfactants-selective electrodes.
Features and Benefits
May be used as a plasticizer for cellulose triacetate membranes providing impermeability to metal cations, but allowing anion exchange.
