Application
NS 1619 has been used as calcium-activated potassium channels (BK)-activator: to study its vaso-relaxing effects on the thoracic aortic rings from mice, to evaluate its effects on the sarco-/endoplasmic reticulum Ca2+-ATPase (SERCA) activity from skeletal muscles, to determine its effects on the expression of caveolin-1 protein in mice brain tumor microvascular endothelial cells
Biochem/physiol Actions
NS 1619 is a selective large conductance Ca2+-activated K+-channel activator. The compound is known for its vasodilating and anti-proliferative properties. It is studied that NS 1619 can protect cardiac muscle against ischemia and reperfusion injury.
NS-1619 can promote the formation of mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (ROS) in cardiac myocytes. It enhances the formation of ROS in cultured brain slices. NS-1619 has the ability to enhance HO-1 activity in wild-type (WT) animals.

Large conductance potassium channels (BK(Ca) channels) play a central role in maintaining myometrial tone, thus activation of these channels proved to have therapeutic potential in preterm labor. Present study aims to unravel the presence of BK(Ca) (maxi-K) channels in buffalo
