General description

Strontium carbonate is a weak base widely used as a starting material in the manufacture of glass cathode ray tubes, colorants in fireworks, phosphors for electroluminescent devices, superconductors, and various Sr-based compounds. It can also be used as a cocatalyst in photocatalytic composites, to expand their photoresponsive range.

Application

Strontium carbonate can be used as a precursor to:
  • Fabricate ceramic composites for n-type thermoelectrics such as SrTiO3–TiO2.
  • Prepare SrCO3/SrO systems for thermochemical energy storage application.

Applied radiation and isotopes : including data, instrumentation and methods for use in agriculture, industry and medicine, 67(1), 7-10 (2008-10-22)
A novel production technique of yttrium-86 based on bombardment of deposited strontium carbonate was investigated. (86)Y was produced via proton-induced reactions on SrCO(3) target that was prepared by the sedimentation method. Production yield of 0.37mCi/microAh at 30 microA was measured
