General description
Calcium carbonate (also called whiting) is the most widely used additive in plastic and elastomeric applications due to its wide availability, easy processing to specific particle sizes and its compatibility with a wide range of polymer types.
Application
Calcium carbonate can be used as an inorganic filler in printed electronic applications and the plastics industry to improve the mechanical stability, flexibility, rheological and optical properties of the synthesized composite materials. In polymer formulations, CaCO3 may be used to formulate several thermoplastics (PVC pipes and floor tiles) and thermosets such as polyesters.
It can also be used as a versatile additive in a wide range of applications such as adhesives, sealants, decorating filler, ceramic glaze, plastics, rubber, coatings, inks, etc.
