General description
Mesoporous silica is an amorphous silicon dioxide-based material with nanosized pores, which imparts the material with a large surface area. Our Silica, mesoporous, 100 µm particle size, pore size ~40A is engineered to achieve an average pore size of 40 Å. The particles possess excellent chemical and thermal stability, facilitating their use in a variety of harsh environments.
Application
Mesoporous silica particles are used widely in the biomedical field due to their easily tunable structure and composition, diverse surface functionalization properties, and excellent biocompatibility. Our 100 µm silica particles with a pore size ~40A product are suitable for studies as an adsorbents for the removal of contaminants or pollutants from water or air. The porous structure enables efficient adsorption of specific molecules or ions and hence can also be employed in separation processes, such as gas separation or chromatography.[1] Mesoporous silica is also used as a support in heterogeneous catalysis. The particles can be impregnated with noble metals or base metals, for example by treating a suspension of the mesoporous silica with a solution of a precatalyst and activating the catalyst by a treatment such as calcination, reduction, or chemical activation.
