General description
1-palmitoyl-2-hydroxy-sn-glycero-3-phospho-(1′-rac-glycerol) or LPG is a 16 carbon lipid with a phosphate headgroup and hydrocarbon tail. It is negatively charged and has a critical micelle concentration of 0.6 mM.
Application
16:0 Lyso PG has been used in the synthesis of acetonide-protected pyrene PG. It may be used for the elution of cytochrome b558 in ion exchange column purification. It may also be used for the solubilisation of eubacterium proton pump protein.
Biochem/physiol Actions
1-palmitoyl-2-hydroxy-sn-glycero-3-phospho-(1′-rac-glycerol) is often used in solubilization and purification of transmembrane proteins. It has been used in the melanosomal protein, Pmel17 aggregation studies.
