General description
Potassium acetate is a white, hygroscopic crystalline salt that is readily soluble in water and most polar organics. High-purity grades up to99.98% (trace-metals basis) are commercially available for micro-electronics,molecular-biology and pharmaceutical uses. It is non-corrosive, biodegradable and offers good electrical conductivity, and as an additive/catalyst in a range of organic and energy-materials syntheses.
Application
Potassium acetate can be used as:
- An electrolyte additive in potassium-ion batteries, enhancing ionic conductivity (up to 15 mS/cm) and cycle stability by forming stable solid-electrolyte interphases.
- A heterogeneous transesterification catalyst for biodiesel – Ultrasound-assisted impregnation of zeolites with potassium acetate (12 wt %) yields solid bases (12K/NaA) that convert palm oil to FAME.
