Chymostatin is a naturally occurring inhibitor of serine proteases with chymotryptic-like specificity. This tetrapeptide inhibitor is produced by various species of Streptomyces bacteria. Chymostatin is used as an inhibitor of MC chymase and is also capable of inhibiting several other proteases, including chymotrypsin, papain, chymotrypsin-like serine proteinases, and lysosomal cysteine proteinases such as cathepsins B, H, andL. Itcontains chymostatin "A" as a major form.

Application

Chymostatin has been used as a:

cysteine protease inhibitor in thesubstrate to measure the activated FX (FXa) activity
protease inhibitor in enzyme purificationlysis buffer
protease inhibitor for ISW2 protein complexpurification
