General description
Sodium trifluoromethanesulfonate, or sodium triflate (NaTfO), is a white, crystalline salt. It is hygroscopic and deliquescent. NaTfO is soluble in water, acetonitrile, some carbonates (including dimethyl carbonate and propylene carbonate, but insoluble in diethyl carbonate), glymes (including monoglyme, diglyme, and triglyme), dimethoxyethane, and most polar organic solvents. It is thermally stable and melts at 253 - 255 °C. NaTfO can be prepared by reaction of sodium sulfate and barium trifluoromethanesulfonate. Alternatively, it can be prepared by reaction between sodium dithionite and bromotrifluoromethane.

Application
Our sodium trifluoromethanesulfonate offers the high purity and low water content ideal for use as an electrolytic salt in sodium-ion batteries. NaTfO is compatible with many cathode and anode materials used in sodium-ion batteries, including sodium metal anodes used in sodium metal batteries Additionally, NaTfO dissolved in diglyme has enabled the use of graphite in reversible sodium-ion batteries When electrolytes comprised of NaTfO dissolved in diglyme, tetraglyme, or 1,2-dimethoxyethane are used with graphite anodes, solvated sodium co-intercalates along with its anion facilitating fast kinetics and high charge rates Researchers have also found that sodium trifluoromethanesulfonate performs well with layered chalcogenides like FeS2 and CoSe2 when other electrolytes perform poorly. Lastly, high-purity NaTfO dissolved in diglyme and 1,3-dioxolane has shown promise as an electrolyte in sodium-oxygen batteries form a thin stable passivation film on the alkali metal anode.
